This home, located in a suburb of Kansas City, is an idyllic example of an expansive Midwest, midcentury modern ranch.  This art-loving couple and their two children tasked the design team with creating a bright modern space that fit their active lifestyle but still embraced the charming original character of the home.  They envisioned spaces that felt distinct but flowed together to create a home perfect for entertaining, and ample wall space to hang their world-class art collection. 

 

Outside the home, the couple wanted a design solution that would make the austere exterior more inviting at the front and rear of the home.  They wanted to create spaces that would flow from inside to out and would draw families and friends outside to gather and play.  Inside, the new home is filled with daylight end to end.  The previously dark, closed off kitchen now opens onto an expansive outdoor patio, and the 8’ sliding door between the spaces can be fully pulled back, blending the boundary between indoor and out.  The kitchen, main living space, entry hall and primary suite were also reoriented to all open onto an expansive reimagined back patio featuring a custom fire feature, the perfect gathering spot for family and friends.
